Twenty-five newly recruited Foreign Service Officers from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar attended the Training on Protocol, Diplomatic Decorum and Conference Management for Myanmar Diplomats conducted by the Foreign Service Institute (FSI) from May 26 to 30 in Yangon.

The FSI training team was headed by Ambassador Marciano A. Paynor, Jr., Director-General of the National Organizing Committee for APEC 2015, along with Madame Rosa Maria B. Villamor, President of the Philippine Ambassadors’ Ladies Foundation, and Ms. Amarie C. Zaldivar and Ms. Dulce Amor N. Fortunado, FSI training specialists.

Ambassador Paynor discussed the rudiments of protocol and conference management while Madame Villamor gave a talk on diplomatic decorum.

Philippine Ambassador to Myanmar Alex G. Chua, in his opening speech on May 26, congratulated the Myanmar government for the successful hosting of the 24th ASEAN Summit. He expressed hope that the FSI’s training will contribute to the expanding bilateral relations between the Philippines and Myanmar.

The training, a commitment made by President Benigno S. Aquino III to President U Thein Sein during the latter’s visit to the Philippines in December 2013, was highlighted by a simulated ASEAN Summit and formal dinner.
