Seventeen Foreign Service Officers (FSOs) undergoing Foreign Service Officers’ Cadetship Course (FSOCC) Batch XXIII were welcomed by the National Security Council (NSC) and the Department of National Defense (DND) in their respective offices in Quezon City on 11 January 2017 for a briefing on national security.

The cadets made a courtesy call on the Deputy Director General (DDG) of NSC, Hon. Vicente M. Agdamag at the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency Compound, Quezon City. DDG Agdamag stressed the importance of cooperation between the NSC and the Department of Foreign Affairs in crafting the national security plan of the country.  Thereafter, Mr. Cyril P. Cusi, Director of the Policy Studies of NSC, lectured about the mandate of the NSC, its organizational structure, the National Security Policy and Strategy of the country  and its future plans. This was followed by an open forum moderated by  Deputy Director-General Julio Amador III of the Foreign Service Institute.

In the afternoon, the cadets went to the DND headquarters at Camp General Emilio Aguinaldo, Quezon City, where they had a courtesy call on the Secretary of the Department of National Defense, Hon. Delfin N. Lorenzana. He was joined by Assistant Secretary for Plans and Programs, Teodoro Cirilo T. Torralba III; Director at the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Plans and Programs, Peter Paul Reuben G. Galvez; and Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff for Civil Military Operations, Brig.Gen. The DND acquainted the cadets with the functions of the DND, its organizational structure, plans and programs, as well as some of the perspectives being looked at by the Department in meeting the challenges of the present and the future. An open forum moderated by DDG Amador concluded the cadets’ visit to the DND, which lasted for three hours.
